EDGAR DEGAS

This may not apply to everyone, but if you appreciate art then you have to be inspired by Edgar Degas and his works. He was truly an inspiring and phenomenal artist. There are few painters of Impressionism that I've liked because it's difficult for me to appreciate the new techniques they introduced. They began painting with small but visible strokes, using different colors to depict light, and painting unusual visual angles. Although, Edgar Degas never wanted to be called an Impressionist and considered himself a realist, he was inspired by many artists, such as Manet, Pissarro, Cézanne, Van Gogh, and El Greco. He did in fact mock painters such as Monet and other landscape painters for working outdoors. Edgar Degas was famous for his sculptures, printmaking, drawings, but especially for his paintings. His paintings mastered the depiction of movement, light, and emotion. Many of his works were of dancers, female nudes, or portraits that conveyed psychological complexity and isolation. His Ballerina series was one of his most famous and admired, he was known to use his sculptures and models to capture each angle and moment he could. Here are a few of his paintings that I love. His drawings and paintings also inspired me to recreate my own drawing in charcoal.

André Kertész took this photograph which is very much inspired by Degas.
